It’s hard to imagine anything purer and more beautiful than the voice of Deva Premal…Yet together with the transcendental artistry of Tibetan bowl master, Paul Temple, the newly released Radiance Matrix album creates an astonishing synergy. If it’s possible to enhance music in a seamless digital mix, the bounty of positive effects in Radiance Mixes sets a higher plane for others to follow. I felt like I was floating in a cloud across vast regions of space, elongated, and suspended in the heart of each note. Without edges, the notes lingered into the finest filaments of sound until traces melted into more refined strata. I will leave it to others to discuss the virtues of this music and its effects on the neural cortex and the brain’s alpha and delta states. I absorbed this music through direct vibrational osmosis.

If this is a taste of the future of music in full flight as a living force, an animus, an etheric burst of radiance, then Radiance Mixes gives the listener a very good experience of what is to come. Thank goodness!

This film doesn’t deliver a froth-induced high, violence- ridden terror or an equilibrium-busting storyline.  The box office films of 2016 films were trauma and black laced, full of sociopaths and skewed individuals with few redeeming exceptions, Collateral Beauty being one.  Though panned by film critics in their usual disdain for everything but dark and sinuous twisting works Collateral Beauty marks a tentative but courageous ‘leap of faith’ for the silver screen and one well worth seeing at the box office this holiday season. 

Finally, one film comes along that is able to dip into the collective bandwidth with some progressive thought and plotline. Still playing to the mass market and stuffed with those handy, clichéd artifices, so odiously labeled as “new age,” Collateral Beauty has a refreshing way of cutting through the biases and delivering a credible and entertaining film about a man who must face the ‘premature’ loss of his daughter.

Without the knowledge or even a hint of the mention of karma and reincarnation to bolster him, something many of us hold as a higher wisdom, consoling us and buffering the visceral pain of intense loss, our hero is helpless in face of the ensuing torment of grief. Many would mask the pain with drugs and drink at this point, but our tragic hero lets it really sink him good-to rock bottom, stripping him of identity, and his personal and professional life…and sanity; yet the crash creates an existential chasm for transcendence-acceptance… and then, rebirth; but, not without the timely intercession of the ‘three graces’ as I call them, labeled in the movie: Love, Time and Death. Of course, such depictions are carefully crafted to fit a storyline palatable to the general public—still, it was nice to see the overarching message that grace does not desert the humbled soul but comes at that pivotal moment when all appears lost and hope rides on the slimmest sliver of the possible. Looking over the edge of the Abyss and rising again, turning our eyes heavenward is the supreme moment in the life of every soul.

Happily, our man in Collateral Beauty does not disappoint and the powerful archetype of the hero is preserved. Screenwriter, Allen Loeb, sets him on the right path again, and though we are not sure where he is heading (like so many of us), our hero is going to be fine as he leaves his shadow behind and moves on with his life.

 Lest this looks too much like that pandemic of ‘inner work’ the socio-spiritual collective is always going on about, Hollywood has added a lot of panache and nuanced silver linings— a really likable cast of characters, Will Smith, Keira Knightley, Helen Mirran, Edward Norton, Michael Peña, and lots of likable subplots that we can all identify with. Happy endings all around for everyone- the gift of collateral beauty.

I was left with that inexplicable feeling that Collateral Beauty is the next step in our shared perception of reality. What a nice Christmas Gift!

Tone-Deaf Council Refuses to Block Smart Meters ( Diappointment #2)

Data, statistics and credentialed testimonies were not a relevant part of the recent (March 12^th) charade of a council meeting. In spite of credible and compelling testimonies by several Sedona residents, presenting the health and safety hazards associated with Smart Meters, the Sedona City Council was unmoved and unfazed. In fact, they had just come from an hour and a half closed-door Executive Session discussing the topic, and evidently came to the meeting with their minds already made up. One wonders why they bother the facade of a democratic hearing, inviting the testimonial input of the people they are there, in fact, to represent.

“We don’t have deep pockets to take on APS.” So says Councilman Ward, and maybe that sums up the cowardice of the current Sedona Council. In a meeting that opened with discussions on ensuring the care of our trailheads and that Sedona is inviting to tourists, when it came to the well-being of Sedona’s residents (and actually tourists as well), the Council was remarkable tone deaf.

Sedona citizens are calling for an immediate Emergency Ordinance and Moratorium to prohibit the installation of Smart Meters in the City of Sedona, until they are proven 100% safe and secure by independent, expert parties.

Councilwoman Barbara Litrell, supported by Councilman Dan McIlroy, gave an impassioned and compelling presentation for an ordinance and moratorium for a no-fee, community-wide opt-out. In spite of this, the rest of the Council and the Mayor refused to take this action and as a result, this March 31^st the monopoly utility APS will begin to install their controversial smart meters in Sedona.

The one current action all Sedona residents have available to them is to “opt-out” on having a Smart Meter installed at their home. (provide link for this instruction)

The Council closed the discussion with the decision to file a motion to intervene with the ACC (Arizona Corporation Commission) on the opt-out fees. Mayor Adams wrapped up by asking: “What about the other 9,900 Sedonians?” (That weren’t present at the meeting.) Well maybe he and the Council should be hearing from some of them.

Sedona Watch Dog

The crowd was overflowing into the lobby, blocking access to other county departments due to its sheer numbers and latecomers were content with standing outside the building at the chance of witnessing an act of bravery on behalf of our city representatives – to vote for a citywide ban on smart meters.

Nineteen witnesses gave thoughtful, well-researched testimony on the health effects of this devastating RF technology and some of the surveillance issues.  The crowd broke out in applause after the more profound presentations, to which the mayor, Rob Adams, admonished us like children, telling us to behave ourselves.  With expectations running high, we were certain that such fine testimony would sway these “leaders” to consider taking bold action against our “Power” company – Arizona Public Service (APS).

One of the more modest agendas of the crowd was to have an extension of the moratorium on installation of smart meters until the Arizona Corporate Commission (ACC) can complete a one year study on the health effects of smart meters, which is reportedly underway.  Few have any faith that they will not succumb to the most powerful corporation under their influence – APS.  They are known to cower under pressure from the energy company.  And, as we all know by now, research can reflect anything that the vested party wishes it to.

One of the more engaged and informed council members, Barbara Litrell, stated that we shouldn’t have to peg our future on the outcome of their science.  She was not supported by the majority of her peers on the council as she waved a stack of research compiled by the City of Eugene, Oregon, as evidence that the science already exists showing that these frequencies are damaging to human health.

“By now the crowd of citizens was murmuring, clearly disappointed and angry that there was so little commitment or courage to act.  Again, the mayor admonished us, to which I spoke out from the crowd saying, “You work for us, not the other way around!”  I was threatened with removal from the chambers by Adams.”

The suggestion that Sedona take the action of legal intervention was introduced, but only to halt the excess fee energy users would incur to opt out – not to stop the installation of the meters.  The council agreed to spend roughly $1,000 to have an attorney do a preliminary meeting to discern what the legal fees would be for a legal intervention to turn back the excess fees.  Meanwhile, the mayor agreed to be the city representative speak with APS representatives, which is unfortunate as he is uneducated or uncommitted – or both – as to what’s at stake.  Ultimately, the council said that 10% of Sedona homeowners had opted out and it was up to us to convince the other 90% to do the same.

Whether you call the Sedona City Council pragmatists or cowards, with the exception of Barbara Litrell and Dan McIlroy, the audacity of removing themselves of responsibility on this critical issue that involves our health and human rights was shocking to each and every one of us!

This is not over, though it will take a lot of energy to educate them further, wear them down or simply vote them out in November, which is looking like our best bet.  This amazing place on Earth, buried in these monolithic, otherworldly red rocks, needs leadership that cares for its citizenry, its beautiful land, its economy and its future.

After we calm our upset minds down, we will plan our next course of action.  Any suggestions from communities who have made headway would be appreciated!!
